Good work mom and dad!  You are now proud parents of a bouncing baby girl or boy.  But wait… mom still looks pregnant.  This is sometimes called baby fat and your next thing you want to figure out is how to lose the undesirable pregancy weight.

Want to lose that unwanted pregnancy weight?  Well, here are some practical ideas.

The natural way to lose your pregnancy weight is to begin breast feed your new bundle of joy.  A hormonal release from breastfeeding will stimulate the uterus to contract and will assist your stomach to return back to prebaby stomach.  Breastfeeding will help dissolve those unwanted pounds by burning about 500-800 calories per day.  On a side note, when you are using up the additional calories, you want to acknowledge that you do want to keep your calorie intake the same.

Here are a couple of steps you can take when you are looking into weight loss.  First, get the postpartum checkup done and when you get the thumbs up, then you should begin a workout plan.  Start your program slow as your tendons have stretched a bit and your muscles may have gone thorough some loss in strength.  Asking your doctor for some recommended postpartum exercises is an optimum start.  Make sure you breastfeed before doing your exercise as it will help you to not feel so heavy.

Walking is one of the easiest exercise you can start in your journer to lose your pregnancy weight.  It is one of the most natural exercise to help you get your body back.  Two things should come to your mind when you walk.  Firstly, get moving with the stroller as it provides you with the natural resistance that your body can work against.  To add difficulty, add some hills in your regime.  Second way is to walk with baby in a sling or carrier.  The baby’s weight will naturally add more challenge to your walk.  This second way gives two benefits: One helps baby have a catnap and two it gives mom and baby some bonding time while mom gets some exercise in.

One of the most critical step to lose your tummy fat is to eat sensibly.  Fruit and vegetables should be one of your main food intake.  You should try to eat as much of that as possible.  Some other foods to consider consuming are lean meats, healthy grains like oats and buckwheat and most of all, drink a lot of water.  Water is so important that I can’t stress enough.  Consume 10 8oz glass of water per day should be a minimum requirement.  If you keep hydrated, you will also have less interest in consuming extra unwanted calories.  It will also help in keeping your supply in breast milk sufficient.

The most fundamental thing to remember is to set realistic weight loss goals.  This is the way to keep yourself motivated on how to lose pregnancy weight.  Remember it took 9 months to gain all that weight and it may take 9 months or longer to lose it.  Dedication to your weight loss goals is crucial.

Just so you realize that, it is much easier to gain the weight than to lose it.  Don’t be disheartened!

A good way to get over the feeling of loss is to join some moms group for support.  Finding a community of like mindedness will considerably enhance your success in weight loss. Keep and stay focus!  Support from family is valuable especially from partners or husbands.  Couples that gained weight together can set a goal to lose weight together.  What can be more pleasant when you both lose with together.
